Predatory Journals and Publishing Ethics

This third session will cover how to recognize predatory journals within the publishing landscape, and how to choose reputable, high quality journals for research within the bounds and scope of best publishing ethics. This session is for career researchers and aspiring authors on their journey toward potential publication in a Cambridge University Press journal.

This session covers:

– How to identify and avoid predatory journals, including common warning signs and tactics used to mislead authors

– Understanding the modern publishing landscape, such as peer review, Open Access models, APCs, and ethical vs. exploitative practices

– How to evaluate journal quality and credibility, using indexing checks, publisher ethics, editorial boards, and recognized tools like COPE, DOAJ, and «Think. Check. Submit»

– How to choose the right journal for your research, focusing on fit, scope, impact, transparency, and long term discoverability
